A stick of parachutists about to carry out a descent from a Whitley. The "Number One", in the background facing the camera, has swung his legs into the aperture and is awaiting the command to exit. This photograph gives a good impression of how unsuited the Whitley was to parachute dropping. The men are cramped tightly together and sitting down, and so can only make a slow exit as they each shuffle towards the aperture. This delay would lead to the stick being somewhat dispersed on the ground. Copyright: Imperial War Museum.
