3603439 Corporal Thomas Edgar, 1st Battalion The Border Regiment, died of his wounds on the 24th September 1944, aged 27. A plaque next to his grave at the Airborne Cemetery reads: "Thomas, called Tom, was the second youngest of six children born to John and Margaret Anne Edgar of Stanwix, Carlisle, UK. He left work as a bricklayer's labourer to enlist in the Border Regiment and then volunteered for airborne service in North Africa and Italy. At Oosterbeek Tom was mortally wounded whilst clearing a house of enemy personnel. His grave was moved here as that of an unknown soldier, but research has since identified him and a headstone bearing his name was dedicated in 2016."
