The Military Order of Willem was founded by William I in 1815. It is awarded for acts of extreme bravery and devotion to duty in the face of the enemy, and therefore it is the Dutch equivelent of the Victoria Cross, although there are four classes: Grand Cross, Commander, Knight Third Class, and Knight Fourth Class.
