Major Gerald Henry Dearlove Ford

Unit : Battalion HQ, 13th Parachute Battalion

Army No. : 50944

Awards : Military Cross

Major Ford was promoted second-in-command of the 13th Parachute Battalion while in France.

He carried out his duties with most marked ability and gallantry. He was always completely calm and collected no matter what the fire or the situation in which the Battalion was engaged. At Putot-en-Auge on 19th August, where he was slightly wounded his conduct in organising the rear of the battalion, which under artillery fire during this advance was beyond praise, again two days later at Pont L'Eveque he moved without hesitation to organise the withdrawal of the battalion, and afterwards returned into the blazing town under fire to recover the body of his batman who had been hit during the action.

Throughout the campaign Major Ford's conduct has been a splendid example to all ranks of the battalion. His leadership and ability are most marked and deserving of recognition.
