During the coup de main operation starting 0020 hours 6th June 1944 on Benouville and Ranville Bridges, Lance-Corporal Stacey gave an outstanding display of dash and initiative. On one occasion he captured an enemy staff car single handed and successfully dealt with the three occupants. His fine example did much to inspire the men under his command throughout the whole operation.
